Amazon lost inventory: check whether it was already reimbursed

By Mardood · Reviewed October 6, 2026 · Manual review guide

A lost-inventory entry is a starting point for investigation, not proof of an unpaid FBA reimbursement. Check later inventory movements, reimbursement records and current eligibility before opening a case.

Reports to collect

  • Inventory Ledger detailed movements for the relevant period
  • Reimbursements report and later matching entries
  • Documented sourcing costs and existing case records

How to investigate the difference

  1. 1. Identify the original event

Retain the SKU or FNSKU, event reference, date, quantity and original source row. A SKU match alone is insufficient when the same item has multiple loss events.

  2. 2. Look for offsets

Check later-found units and recorded reimbursements. If you cannot associate an offset with the original event confidently, keep the result unresolved rather than allocating it twice.

  3. 3. Review eligibility and value

Amazon decides reimbursement under its current policy. Verify the event category, account requirements, evidence and valuation basis in Seller Central. Do not assume the retail price applies.

  4. 4. Submit only after seller review

Check existing cases and credits before filing. Mardood’s beta can show structured inventory discrepancies; it does not establish eligibility or file the claim.

Worked example

Illustrative quantity check: 8 lost units minus 2 found units minus 3 reimbursed units leaves 3 units to investigate, provided the offsets really belong to that event. It does not establish a reimbursement amount.

Illustrative only; not a customer result or recovery estimate.

Before using the app

Does Mardood guarantee that unresolved units are eligible?

No. Missing cost data, ambiguous event matching, existing reimbursements and policy conditions can prevent a valid claim. U.S. paid packets are not available in the current beta.
